Chinese Automobiles Come to America (Apr 28)
It is expected that this will be the year that the first Chinese cars will be sold in the United States. The deal was struck, between the Chinese car manufacturer Chery and an American group called Visionary Vehicles back in the year 2005 to begin selling imported Chery automobiles in Canada and the United States beginning in 2007.

Chery is one of the more ambitious car manufacturers from China. They are a relatively new company, only founded in the year 1997, but now already sell their vehicles in well over two dozen countries. They are also planning to start selling their cars in the European Union territory.
Chery’s origins are rather humble. They were started in the province of Wuhu, an area where there was much need for a company like Chery in order to provide jobs to the local denizens. The company is owned by the local government, and nearly fell apart in the very beginning owing to a lack of demand for their vehicles. Then, one day they received an order for taxis by the local government, and were thus saved from extinction.
It is something of a miracle that Chery has become one of the leading independent car makers in all of China. They have collaborated with Italian design firms such as Bertone and Pininfarina, as well as leading engineering companies like Mitsubishi in Japan.
Chery received a major boost in the year 2001 when the Shanghai Automotive Industry Company decided to invest in their cars. At the same time, they experienced difficulties when they were slapped by a lawsuit from the GM company, who claimed that Chery copied one of their car designs.
Still, Chery is on the rise. It is only a matter of time before the name Chery is known the world over for their top quality vehicles.
